 How did we start?
Colorworx Nursery Ltd was started in 1974 in New Zealand by Dave and Adele Penn as a small family business, previously trading using our own name as Penn's Nursery under the "Penn's Plants Please" brand.
Our plants with yellow, smiley labels were sought after throughout the North Island. We re-branded / updated to Colorworx in 2003 which was a major change considering the market share that the "Penns" brand had. However our confidence in the change has been proven as Colorworx is now the leading Perennial brand selling throughout the North Island.
We originally started our nursery in Whenuapai, Auckland but in the mid 1980's we moved to Tauranga. Initially we were growing on a 2½ acre property but such was the demand for our plants that we had to move to a much larger property of 12½ acres. The property is ideal for growing a quality grade plant. It is not overly sheltered and we do get frosts which mean our plants are suitable for supply throughout the North Island. To service the North Island we run our own fleet of trucks which means fresher quality plants delivered to the Garden Retailers. You will find Colorworx plants at most garden retailers. Marketing
Our market focus continues to be supplying quality, colour and foliage perennials. The bulk of plants grown are in 14cm / 1.5L range, however we also do a larger grade of Perennials in 4.7L pot which are sought after by the gardeners who want an instant garden. Lavenders continue to be top sellers along with the many ground covers that we offer. Colorworx already have and continue to be offered exclusive, Protected and Licensed plants from leading overseas growers. These will feature on our Website from time to time.

What’s New
On our home page we highlight new releases or exciting plants right for the season which you can find in most garden centres.
The latest new colorworx exclusive release is Lavender "With Love" PVR This is a stunning pink lavender. Compact at only 60cm x 60cm, it can be kept indoors for up to two weeks before going outdoors again. Early and long flowering makes "With Love"PVR suitable for pots and the garden. Full sun location in a well drained soil. A light prune after main flowering flush with an application of slow release fertiliser will keep your lavender looking great
This is a real charmer as a gift or for yourself.
Our next exclusive new release will be AJUGA 'SUGAR PLUM' PVR. It has very large, thick, rounded and scalloped-edged leaves that are grey-green flushed with deep pink and occasionally streaked with cream, with claret on the young growth. The flowers are a deep blue which compliments the foliage.
'Sugar Plum' is ideal for the front of borders, rock gardens or container planting. It does not suffer from mildew, and performs well in even very hot weather. Sun or shade H. 10cm
A worthwhile addtion to any garden to add all year round colour. Look out for it in all leading garden outlet around May / June 09.
